Our region’s generosity is on full display during Giving Hearts Day … tens of thousands of people. Millions of dollars. Hundreds of worthy charities. It’s truly amazing – a real testament to the communities we live and work in.
Giving Hearts come in many shapes and sizes, and contribute in a lot of different ways. At The Village, we’re proud to count among our team the volunteer mentors who give their time to Big Brothers Big Sisters. By simply showing up, they’re making a BIG difference in the lives of children in the Fargo-Moorhead community. We’re talking better academic performance, improved relationships with family and friends, and a brighter sense of the future. Just watch Karl and Ervin‘s story to see the difference a Big can make.
“He’s helped me get through the hard times, and he’s always been there for me when I need him,” Ervin says. “He’s one of my best friends. He’s like a real brother to me.”
We are also lucky to count alumni of our First Step Recovery program. First Step provides comprehensive treatment for addiction, as well as a family program to support loved ones of those struggling with the disease. Listen as they share the impact First Step had on their lives.
“The day I entered First Step Recovery was the day my life changed completely. I was able to breathe again. My life was falling apart. My marriage was on the rocks. My parenting skills weren’t what they should be. And I was making choices that were against everything that I stood for. And First Step Recovery saved me.”
As you say #CountMe this Giving Hearts Day, please remember First Step Recovery and Big Brothers Big Sisters. Just search “The Village” at www.givingheartsday.org to donate to one or both programs! And know that you’re changing someone’s story … whether it’s creating a “Little” beginning for an at-risk youth, or helping someone take the “First Step” toward a healthier future.
