Not to care for him, but care about him

Here’s Why Nancy Is Going To Run For Recovery

Nancy’s son was an alcoholic. She tried to fix it. She tried to hide it. She realized he had to hit rock bottom before he could get help.

When that day came, Nancy and her son both found the help and healing they needed at First Step Recovery in Fargo. First Step, a program of The Village Family Service Center, has a family program for people whose loved ones struggle with addiction. That’s where Nancy learned a valuable lesson:

Not to care for him, but care about him.
Not to fix him, but be supportive.
Not to deny his alcoholism, but to accept the disease.

On Sept. 14, Nancy, her son and their entire family will take part in the Michael Kaspari Memorial Run for Recovery. The fun run/walk event, part of Recovery Month, raises awareness about addiction recovery and supports the family program at First Step.

“First Step Recovery cares deeply for families,” Nancy says. “Our family recognizes the gift we have received through First Step. Our region is fortunate to have this resource.”
